Are you interested in becoming a Board Member of the Social Work Student Association (SWSA)? Please nominate yourself!
All Social Work Student Association Executive Board positions are open for next year and the positions include:
*specific duties of each position are listed below*
- PRESIDENT
- VICE PRESIDENT
- PUBLIC RELATIONS
- SERVICE CHAIR
To become a Board Member you need to…
- go to UMBC's main campus
- have a minimum 2.5 GPA in order to serve;
- commit time to meetings and services events;
- be a social work major; and
- be an active SWSA member (to be an active member, you must have attended some SWSA events this academic year; events include meetings, service events, and SWSA-sponsored training's or presentations).
Please send your name, the position you are interested in, your current year (freshman, sophomore, etc.), and 2-3 examples of what you would like to accomplish in that position to Dr. Ekas at aekasm@umbc.edu no later than April 28th.
The specific responsibilities of the President are to:
·Keep faculty advisor and departmental staff updated on all association activities and advocate for their participation;
·Chair the committee for constitutional review every two years if it is called for in that individual’s term of office;
·Prepare the agenda for each general meeting;
·Keep the SWSA bulletin board and information of all SWSA events, meeting times, and contact information current; and
·Lead Board Member meetings.
The specific responsibilities of the Vice President are to:
·Participate on a committee to review the constitution every two years if it is called for in that individual’s term of office;
·Assist in preparing the agenda for each meeting;
·Assist the President with his/her duties;
·Record past activities in the log book which will be passed down to future officers;
·Assist any chair with planning events, if necessary; and
·Coordinate the mentorship program (if applicable).
The specific responsibilities of the Public Relations Chair are to:
·Create flyers for events and meetings;
·Update all social media accounts including: MyUMBC, Instagram, and post on the Facebook page;
·Take pictures at events SWSA is participating in; and
·Attend social work classes with Secretary to promote SWSA, and collect email addresses from interested students.
The specific responsibilities of the Service Chair are to:
·Contact agencies or organizations about potential volunteer opportunities for SWSA;
·Plan and execute events and volunteer opportunities for the organization in conjunction with the President;
·Serve as a resource to students and faculty for service projects;
·Seek input of student members on event planning; and
·Publicize events for the organization.
