Description

Eminent Mentor, Dr. Sandra Butler, will be speaking at UMBC on the topic of Human Behavior in the Social Environment of Aging in Place: Reflections on Gender, Age, Class, and Sexual Orientation in the Context of Home Care Work. Dr. Butler's talk will focus on one of her most recent Projects: the lived experience of older LGBT women who receive home care, and the workers who care for them.

The talk is April 24th at 1pm on the 7th floor of the Library.

Dr. Sandra Butler is a social work professor at the
University of Maine. Her research focuses primarily on the health needs and social welfare experiences of low-income women across the life span. She has been a Hartford
Geriatric Social Work Faculty Scholar and a Hartford Faculty
Research Mentor.

In 2008 she received an R-15 award from the National
Institute on Aging to look at retention and turnover among home care workers, with a particular focus on older
workers.

She works closely with the statewide advocacy
organization, Maine Equal Justice Partners, by researching the impact of state policy on low-income populations in Maine.
